Last post from Sayulita

See you when???
We are starting the wind down. I'm sitting on the  beach under the shade of our umbrella, sipping on a cerveza and writing this entry.   We are looking forward to getting back to Canada, seeing friends and family and continuing with our projects.

It has been relatively quiet in Sayulita this past week.  It seems like the school breaks have ended and we are in the calm before the storm... Semana Santa starts in a week from now and the town will be over crowded. We haven't been too busy this last week. Quite a bit of walking but not much biking, since my bike was at the shop for some regular maintenance.  We spent time visiting with friends and aquaintenances that we wanted to see before we left town. We have quite bit of stuff here in Mexico so a storage unit is necessary for us to store everything.  We took the motorcycle and related gear to the unit lat Wednesday. This morning we took another load.

My friend Lee, who is wintering in Mazatlan, is coming to Sayulita tomorrow to get some new tires installed on his bike before he heads back north.  I have a set of tires that I brought to Mexico a few years ago but we haven't been riding the bike much so I don't need them. The tire on my bike will get me back to Canada.

The rules for keeping a foreign vehicle in Mexico are changing and after next year we won't be able to keep a vehicle here. If ones wants a vehicle in Mexico the options are to buy or import a vehicle and licence it  in Mexico or travel on a tourist visa, good for 180 days, and the vehicles has to leave the country when you leave.   So our plan is to bring both the car and motorcycle out of Mexico next Spring.  The rules are not firm yet so this is all subject to change!

We certainly have had an enjoyable past 2 1/2 months here in Sayulita.  Sayulita is definitely becoming a more popular tourist destination. The state of Nayarit pumped some money in a couple of years ago to enhance parts of the town and their tourismu people have been doing quite a bit of advertising.

There is still a good mix of tourists from Mexico and other countries. Prices have risen and will likely continue to rise since the government of Mexico is implementing a 16% sales tax.  The tax took effect on Jan 1 but is not yet being charged during the initial implementation phase.

We are flying back to Kalispell on Wednesday, but we'll be back.
