Sayulita 2013

After a log delay I have finally returned to the blog. In the last entry (Nov. 11) we were in Sayulita.

Shortly after this last entry we packed up the bike and heading on on a trip inland. We spent one night in Tapalpa, Jalisco and then 2 nights in Guadalajara before continuing on to Guanajuato. We had rented a very nice house for a week in Guanajuato. No sooner had we arrived, that we received an email from Linda's brother, Steve.  Linda's Mom, who had been living is long tern care facility for some time, had taken a turn for the worse.

We immediately started making plans to return to the coast and fly directly from PVR to  Toronto. Before we left Guanajuato, the next morning, we received information that Linda's Mom, had passed away. We rode back to Sayulita in one day, stored  most of our belongings at the hotel and flew to Toronto the next day.

It is said that it takes weddings and funerals to get most families together. This was no exception. Linda's mom had not been well for some time, so her passing was not unexpected.  Of course it was a sad and somber occasion but it was also an opportunity for an enjoyable family get together. Linda and I flew back to Fernie after the funeral. Arriving home a week earlier than anticipated.

We spent the few weeks before Christamas preparing our house for  rental. This winter, for the first time, we decided to rent our home in Fernie to a recently retired couple from Ottawa who were coming to Fernie for the ski season. After the holiday season we moved out of the Fernie house and back into our old house at the ski hill. Ivan, the owner of the house, generously offered it us as a few weeks before we returned to Mexico. We actually spent much of the time in Kaslo. Preparing the Kaslo House for new flooring and painting. Transient but busy!

On Jan 28th we returned to Mexico on an early morning flight out of Kalispell, MT. We arrived in PVR just after 3pm., jumped a cab to Vallarta Bodegas, where the bike (and Mexmobile) is stored, and arrived in Sayulita around 5:30. It's nice to be back!

We spent the first day getting organized (somewhat?). We have a lot of stuff down here now.  When we left quickly in November, we threw some of it in a storage room in Hotel Diamante and some of it in a shed next door to the hotel.  Neither Linda or I could remember exactly what we had left here.

The MC had been stored outside, under cover and was very dusty when we picked it up from the storage unit. I need to do a few repairs and upgrades on the bike. I spoke to the neighbour and he has given me some space in his yard to work on the bike.  I am going to upgrade some suspension components. Also the front tire has a slow leak that needs to be rectified. But first it needed to be cleaned!

A clean machine and Linda relaxing on the balcony.

Later in the day we wandered down to the beach for a refreshment and joined 3 amigos for a beer. After a while, Tiburon and his son ambled by to serenade us with a version of La Bomba.  The staff at Terazola joined in with an impromptu dance and you get to meet Hans (El Capitan) at the end of the video.  Hans, an Alaska fisherman, is another regular winter resident in Hotel Diamante.

No soy marinero. Soy capitan, soy capitan. la la Bomba....

Later in the evening we all enjoyed a fabulous meal prepared by Hans and Carol in the common kitchen area....

Up early this morning to post this. Now we are heading out for a mountain bike ride.

more later....
