Sorry for the delay updateing our blog. Been having trouble with the Blogpress app and the link to Blogger, but I think I found the problem now.

We have been here in Sayulita for just over a week now so I figure it's about time to post an entry on our blog. We have been pretty busy, in a good way.

The main purpose of this trip is to obtain an FM3 visa. With a basic Mexican tourist visa a Canadian's stay is limited to 180 days. This limit also applies to a foreign registered vehicle. It is the limit on the vehicle that is a problem for us. It means that at the end of this visit we will have to ride the bike back to Phoenix, Arizona, store it there and fly home. It is 1900k from Sayulita to Phoenix and the ride is not attractive, in several ways.

However, if our FM3 visa application is successful, we will be able
to leave the motorcycle in storage near PVR. We also will be able to stay in Mexico over the six month limit, open a bank account, own a Mexican vehicle, apply for Mexican medical coverage, etc. This visa does not allow us to work in Mexico. In order to apply we had to provide the immigration office with our address in Mexico, passport identification and bank statements that prove we have income from outside of the country. ( about $1200./month single or $1500. / month couple). Our application was filed with the immigration office last Tuesday (march 6). The approval process takes about 2 weeks... So at this point it is wait and see!

We have been quite active since arriving. The night we arrived at our hotel there was a birthday party for the owner. Some of the guests had prepared a big batch of seafood stew and and it was nice welcome back for us. The next night one of the regular seasonal guest was leaving so Lorena (one of the gals that works in the hotel) prepared her fabulous Chiles Rellenos for another fiesta meal.... So much for our plans to stay on healthy diet!

We have been active though. Our inflatable boogie boards work well. It is good exercise playing in the surf. Last sunday morning I rented a mountain bike from a little store near the hotel and went for ride with the owner. Nice hilly dirt roads along the coast, south towards Punta Mita (I'll let you look up these places). Planning to do this again soon.

We also took a language class again. Just a couple of hour each morning. It is fun and we get to meet locals and other tourists. This weekend is the annual longboard and paddle board competion. I posted a couple of videos on the next post. There is a big stage set up on the beach for the free music this evening... We love dancing on the beach!

The town of Sayulita is really quite a mess right now. Every side walk and most of the roads in the downtown section are dug up and being replaced. Mexico hosts a huge tourism trade show every year. This year it is being hosted in Vallarta. The state of Nayarit, in which Sayulit is located has allocated funding to 4 towns along the coast in order to allow them to prepare for the arrival of Travel agents, tour companies etc.

I have no idea how their efforts will effect tourism but when completed Saulita and the other towns will be even more attractive. Here are a couple of shots of partially finished work. Coloured stamped concrete and cobble stone lanes. Several narrow streets are becoming pedestrian walkway only.








Thats it for now... Time to go and watch a bit more of the surfing.
